A full port ball valve offers a flow path equal to the diameter of the pipe, minimizing pressure drop. A reduced port ball valve has a smaller flow path, but is more compact and economical.
Teflon tape is an excellent solution for sealing threaded brass fittings. Alternatively, you can use a liquid sealant specifically designed for plumbing fittings. Be sure to apply the sealant evenly to both threads.
